Alpha Omega Alpha Elects New Officers

Alpha Omega Alpha Honor Medical Society is pleased to announce the election of its officers for the 2011/2012 year:

President—Dr. Ruth-Marie Fincher, MD, MACP, Vice Dean for Academic Affairs and Professor of Medicine at the Georgia Health Sciences Medical College of Georgia. Dr. Fincher was elected to AOA in 1976 as a faculty member at the Medical College of Georgia. She was elected to the board of directors of AOA in 2003, and was awarded the AOA Robert J. Glaser Distinguished Teacher Award in 1996.

President Elect—Dr. C. Bruce Alexander, MD, Professor and Vice Chair of the Department of Pathology at the University of Albama at Birmingham. Dr. Alexander was elected to AOA as a student in 1970 at the University of Virginia. He was secretary-treasurer of the UAB chapter in 1992 through 1999 and chapter councilor from 1999 through 2009. Dr. Alexander was elected to the board of directors of AOA in 2002 as a councilor director, and subsequently elected as member at large in 2005. He became secretary-treasurer of the society in 2007. He will serve as president elect of the society in 2011/2012 and will become president in 2012/2012.

Immediate Past President—Dr. Rae-Ellen W. Kavey, MD, Professor in the Department of Pediatrics, Cardiology (SMD) at the Children's Heart Center at the University of Rochester Medical Center. Dr. Kavey was elected to AOA in 1972 as a student at the State University of New York Downstate. She served as councilor to the AOA chapter at the State University of New York Upstate from 1995 through 2000, and was elected to the AOA board of directors as a councilor director in 1998. She was subsequently elected as a member at large in 2001 and has served as president of the society since 2006, stepping down this year to become immediate past president for the year 2011/2012.
