Student Research Fellowship: Jefferson Medical College

Jacob Smith, MPH, Jefferson Medical College Class of 2013, received the Alpha Omega Alpha Honor Medical Society, Carolyn L. Kuckein Student Research Fellowship check from Dr. Clara Callahan, The Lillian H. Brent Dean of Students and Admissions, and the AΩA Councilor.

Jacob will work with Dr. Philip Spinella, a pediatric intensivist, at Connecticut Children's Medical Center. The research study, entitled "The Immunologic Effects of Red Blood Cell Transfusion in Critically Ill Children," is a pilot study which will assess whether transfused critically ill children experience immune system modulations following transfusion.
