Distinguished Teacher Awards

2011 Alpha Omega Alpha Robert J. Glaser Distinguished Teacher Awards

Presented annually at the Awards dinner of the Association of American Medical Colleges (AAMC) by the President of Alpha Omega Alpha that funds the program, this award recognizes outstanding contributions to the education of medical student by four faculty at LCME-approved schools of medicine.

Up to four $10,000 general faculty awards are made. In addition, each recipient's nominating institution will receive $2500 for teaching activities. If that school has an AΩA chapter, a $1000 stipend is awarded towards its activities.

Effective 2010, medical schools whose nominee wins one of the Distinguished Teacher Awards is not eligible to submit another nominee during three subsequent years. The recipient schools for the past three years are:

Nominees submitted by the deans are vetted by a review committee composed of past winners of the award: Two are from basic science, preclinical departments, and two are from clinical disciplines. Each nominee's application, bibliography and curriculum vitae must be received by 5:00 p.m., Eastern Standard Time, on Monday, May 2, 2011.

These awards are based on a national competition conducted through the offices of the deans of U.S. and Canadian medical schools, and are designed to recognize distinction in medical student teaching. Each school may submit one application every fourth year. Recipients are selected by committees jointly appointed by AΩA and the Association of American Medical Colleges (AAMC).
