The University
of Alberta, established in 1908, boasts one of the finest
medical programmes in Canada. During the four year medicine
programme, students are educated by world renowned medical
experts in state-of-the-art medical facilities. Routinely,
the graduating class of the Faculty of Medicine scores among
the top three Canadian medical schools in licensing examinations.
The "UofA" continues to be a major source of advances medical
research, as exemplified by the recent success of the Edmonton
Protocol for the transplant of pancreatic islet cells. However,
University of Alberta medical students do more than just excel
academically. They are also known for their many community
outreach projects, including the recent establishment of a
medical student run inner-city health clinic, and their yearly
smoking prevention programme for Edmonton elementary school
students.
