Each year, AΩA National gives out a number of awards. Here are some that UIC students won this past year.
To promote basic and clinical research in medical fields, social science, or health services, AΩA awards up to fifty $3,000 fellowsihps each year to medical students at schools with AΩA chapters. The student does not need to be an AΩA member. This year’s winner is Sumedha Lamba, from the UIC—Rockford campus for her project entitled “The role of 4-1BB Ligand in the Maturation, Survival, and Longevity of Dendritic Cells.”
Annual grants of up to $1,500 are available to medical schools with active AΩA chapters to support service projects benefiting either the school or its local community, as well as to recognize students who dedicate their time and effort to these projects. Projects may be proposed by any student, not just members of Alpha Omega Alpha. Each school is eligible for one award per year. The winner this year is the HeRMES Clinic (Helping Revitalize Medical Education Through Service), run by students from the UIC—Urbana-Champaign campus. The HeRMES Clinic admirably reflects the aims of AΩA and will have a major impact on the rural community of Danville, Illinois.
Information on how to apply for these and other awards will be available on this page in the coming months.
