UT Southwestern Medical School

With its dedication to teaching and training future health professionals and scientists, its commitment to remaining at the forefront of biomedical research, and its outstanding service in providing the highest quality of compassionate, scientifically-based care to its patients, UT Southwestern Medical Center is well-respected as one of the top academic medical centers in the world. Situated on a 231-acre campus on Harry Hines Boulevard, just a 10-minute drive northwest of downtown Dallas, the medical center includes three degree-granting institutions: UT Southwestern Medical School, UT Southwestern Graduate School of Biomedical Sciences, and UT Southwestern Allied Health Sciences School. Together they train more than 4000 medical, graduate and allied health students, residents and postdoctoral fellows each year. The center's affiliated hospitals include Parkland Memorial Hospital, Zale Lipshy University Hospital, St. Paul University Hospital, Children's Medical Center Dallas, and the Dallas VA Medical Center. Among the dedicated UT Southwestern faculty are many distinguished members, including four Nobel laureates, 15 members of the National Academy of Sciences, and 16 members of the Institute of Medicine. UT Southwestern Medical School itself is one of four medical schools in the University of Texas System and one of eight medical schools in the state of Texas. The medical school admits more than 200 students each year and has awarded more than 8600 medical degrees since it was established. Admission is highly competitive, and by law, 90% of the medical school's students are Texas residents, thus assuring a consistent source of high-quality physicians for the state.
