Edward D. Harris, Jr., MD, 1937-2010

Edward D. Harris, Jr., MD, Executive Director of Alpha Omega Alpha and editor of The Pharos, died on May 21, 2010, after a long illness. Dr. Harris was a renowned rheumatologist, medical researcher, administrator, author, and educator. As Executive Director, he brought fresh, new direction to AΩA and The Pharos. The AΩA Professionalism Award which was initiated last year, was conceived and developed by Ted, who was passionately committed to excellence in every aspect of the practice of medicine. In his honor, it will be renamed the Edward D. Harris Professionalism Award. Donations to AΩA in Ted's name will be used to support this award. Donations may be sent to the address under Contact Information in the left sidebar, and should include a notation indicating that the funds are for the Edward D. Harris Professionalism Award.

A memorial service will be held in Stanford, California, on August 24, 2010, 4:00 to 6:00 pm at Stanford's Li Ka Shing Center for Learning and Knowledge. Dr. Harris's family would be grateful for memorial contributions to The American College of Rheumatology Research and Education Foundation or to The Adenoid Cystic Carcinoma Research Foundation.
