Medical Student Service Project Award

Purpose
To aid the establishment of a medical student service project benefiting the medical school or the local community, and to recognize students who dedicate their time and effort to these endeavors. Only one new proposal will be accepted from a school during an academic year. Initial applications must be for new projects with the potential to generate future support from the medical school or other sources, not for supplemental funding for existing programs.

Eligibility
Any group of students at a school with an active AΩA chapter (AΩA membership is not required).

The Award
The school will receive up to $2000 per year, renewable for a second year up to $1000 and a third year up to $500 to fund the project. Funding for the second and third years will be dependent on review by the national office of a progress report on the first or second years.

Dates
The AΩA councilor and office of the dean will set a deadline for proposals to be submitted to the school. One proposal will be chosen from among those submitted to the councilor to be sent to the national office by the students involved. The selected proposal may be sent at any time.

Proposal Requirements
Proposals describing the project and the involvement of the organizing students should be prepared by the lead students. The application must be no longer than two single-spaced pages (1-inch margins, 10-point or larger type). It must include:

1. an explanation of the project's goals and objectives
2. a proposed budget with plans for evaluation
3. a support letter from the AΩA chapter councilor
4. a support letter from the dean of students
5. e-mail addresses and MS year of the lead students

Within 60 days of receipt, the national office will notify the students and the chapter of its decision regarding funding.
